MILLIONS OF AMERICANS CELEBRATE TURKEY-FREE THANKSGIVING

Millions of Americans across the U.S. will celebrate a turkey-free Thanksgiving this year with a wholesome, nonviolent assortment of the earth’s bounty: grains, vegetables, and fruits.

In hotel ballrooms, community centers, church halls, and private homes they will feast on a wholesome, nonviolent assortment of grains, vegetables and fruits. The fare may include a Tofurky, lentil or nut roast, stuffed squash, corn chowder or chestnut soup, candied yams, cranberry sauce, pumpkin or pecan pie and carrot cake.

Movie star Alicia Silverstone will be observing a vegan Thanksgiving with a delectable menu including her own “Tofu-Not-A-Turkey,” cranberry sauce, old-fashioned sweet potatoes and cornbread muffins.

Check out the GentleThanksgiving recipe page and the websites below for Alicia Silverstone’s recipes and other delightful vegan Thanksgiving dishes.

Some of the reasons Americans opt for a vegan Gentle Thanksgiving:

  • They give their bodies a holiday from saturated fat, cholesterol, and hormones.
  • They have more room for yummy “sides” like sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie.
  • They don’t have to call the Poultry Hotline to keep their family alive.
  • They get to pardon a turkey, just like the President.

Vegan eating is becoming increasingly popular in America as more consumers discover the health, environmental, and ethical benefits. Indeed, more than 30 million Americans have explored meat-free eating, and one in three teens thinks that vegetarianism is “cool.” Mainstream health advocacy groups are advocating plant-based diets, and a large variety of meat alternatives are available in every supermarket. Even Burger King offers veggie burgers to accommodate the increasing number of vegetarian consumers.

Vegans have a vast array of options for a hearty Thanksgiving meal. If pressed for time, they can purchase a delicious, healthy, ready-to-eat turkey alternative made of tofu, gluten, and seitan, with traditional trimmings, from their local health food market or from one of the websites below. Those who prefer to cook from scratch, have a large variety of websites (below) to choose from.
