As part
of our outreach effort
this year, we've organized
a major radio talk show
campaign to encourage Americans
to have a Gentle Thanksgiving.
We have a number of qualified
and entertaining interview
subjects for you to choose
from, each highlighted
below. For more information
or to schedule an interview,
please call us at 888-FARM-USA.
Michael Greger, MD
Dr. Greger is without a doubt the most entertaining and informative speaker in nutrition today. He is equal parts comedian, scientist, and activist.
A physician, prize-winning cook, and founding member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, Dr. Greger is an internationally recognized speaker on a number of important public health and social justice issues. He has released three DVDs and manages www.AtkinsFacts.org,a
website that exposes
the health risks associated
with the Atkins Diet
and which the Atkins
Corp warns he operates "at [his] own risk." Visit
his other website here.
Matthew Scully
A conservative Republican in a predominantly liberal movement, Mr. Scully brings a unique perspective to animal protection. His book Dominion: The Power of Man, the Suffering of Animals, and the Call to Mercy calls upon religious people to extend mercy and kindness to animals as well as people.
Matthew Scully is a former special assistant and senior speech writer to President George W. Bush. A former literary editor for the National Review, his work has appeared in The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Times, and The New York Times, among other newspapers and magazines. Alex Hershaft, PhD
Dr.
Hershaft has been a leading
force in the animal rights
movement since the 1970s.
He is the founder of FARM
- the Farm Animal Rights
Movement, as well
as Gentle Thanksgiving
and the
Great American Meatout.
Dr. Hershaft and the
FARM team also organize
the National
Animal Rights Conferences each
year.
Led by Dr. Hershaft, FARM was the first organization to entirely devote its efforts to advocating rights for farmed animals. His passion for justice was shaped largely by his Holocaust experience.
Howard Lyman
A fourth-generation family farmer from Montana, Howard Lyman owned and operated a multi-million dollar agribusiness, including a feedlot with as many as seven thousand head of cattle, until a life-threatening spinal tumor turned his life around in 1979. He lobbied for organic farming, went vegan, and began advocating for the protection of farmed animals. He rose to the national spotlight in 1996, when a group of Texas cattlemen unsuccessfully sued Oprah Winfrey and Mr. Lyman for comments they made on her show.
Mr. Lyman is author of the best-selling book Mad Cowboy: Plain Truth from the Cattle Rancher Who Won't Eat Meat. He ran for Congress in 1982 and has served as president of the International Vegetarian Union and EarthSave International. He currently serves as president of Voice for a Viable Future, which he founded. A feature documentary on his life is due for release in late November or early December.
